On the back (and sometimes front) of Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and other devices you'll find a baby-blue RJ45 female jack labelled "CONSOLE". This serial port enables you to configure the router at the command prompt level. The 9-PIN serial female end of the cable connects to the serial port of a PC.
